Manufacturing Radar

A production monitoring concept designed to create more transparency across shop floor data, process quality, and operational KPIs.

The goal was to translate distributed IPC data into a consistent information model that supports error detection, trend analysis, and sound decision-making in manufacturing.

Project Context

QIAGEN GmbH is one of the leading companies in the field of PCR test kits. With QIAStatDx PCR kits eight different respiratory diseases can be diagnosed in a single test run.

In this environment, I worked as an IT/OT consultant within a cross-functional engineering team on several integration and data-driven manufacturing initiatives.

Target State

Based on solid process knowledge, the next step was to support initiatives for process harmonization as well as reducing scrap rates and downtime.

The approach was to use IPC data to build an information landscape that provides insights into quality and manufacturing issues at unit level while also making trends visible across production batches.

Manufacturing Radar is the ASP.NET application that was developed specifically for this requirement.

Data Landscape

A wide range of IPCs are used, including different types of computer vision workstations, leak testers, balances (Mettler-Toledo / LabX), REA barcode verifiers, and Hamilton pipetting robots with vision extensions.

Data with different structures and technical characteristics is consolidated in Manufacturing Radar into a unified information entity.
